What worked for you to reduce swelling if you didn’t breast feed?

I am currently wrapping my breast with ace bandage to help stop the swelling for milk. Are there any recommendations to help with this process?

Cold cabbage leaves, sounds and smells weird but works wonders

I used a surgical bra. I bought cabbage leaves and ice packs but never used them. Avoid letting warm water hit them in the shower. I’ve heard Sudafed helps. Honestly if you can get through those first 48 hours it gets so much better

Take decongestants it’ll dry you up. Stuff like Sudafed and Benadryl

Find the tightest sports bra you own. Never take it off. Seriously, sleep in it, wear it every day. Only take it off to shower. While you are in the shower, keep your back to the shower head. It is all about avoiding any and all stimulation. Use cold cabbage leaves for comfort if needed. Take a sudafed or similar decongestant. It dries secretions including breast milk.

Wrapping your breasts can actually cause mastitis. Wear a sleep bra to bed and a very supportive bra during the day. You can lightly pump or hand express for just a few minutes until you feel a little relief, but don’t do it too often or too long or you may continue to produce. Stay hydrated. Mine were really sore for 2-3 days and by a week they felt fairly normal again.

Answer

Depending on how quickly you want to quit, you'll have to bear the discomfort. Don't stimulate or use anything warm on them. Use a cold compresses to help with the engorgement. Also sage tea is known to decrease milk supply. Drink at least 3 times a day, everyday while you're ramping down. Good luck!
