Diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.. anyone else?!

Hi there, I was diagnosed with GD today I’m absolutely devastated.. spent most of the afternoon crying off and on. I just feel like a failure.. like I’m hurting my child with my sugar intake... like something’s going wrong... I’m really struggling and looking for advice or words of wisdom from anyone who has had it or recently diagnosed with it.

Come join the GD group. Lots of support there. But I’ll say this: receiving the diagnosis so far has been the worst part. The diet isn’t that hard, insulin is no big deal if you need it and it’s all short term. Very low risk of complications if it’s well managed.

I had it with my last pregnancy and just had the test done for this pregnancy, but haven't gotten my results back yet. Hoping I passed the dang test this time, we will see. Anyways, I myself think the diet is terrible, I'm a carb girl! I love pasta, breads, and rice...anyways, it was hard to do with my last pregnancy, but it is a short amount of time you have to do it for. Just keep in mind you are doing this to have a healthy baby and that will help you stay on track. I would keep string cheese, boiled chicken, and boiled eggs in my refrigerator. The chicken I would eat plain or make lettuce ranch wraps or barbecue and cheddar wraps, and the cheese and eggs I'd just eat when I needed a quick snack. Go on pinterest, it has lots of low carb snack ideas. Best of luck to you!

I was just diagnosed yesterday and having the same feelings as you. This is my second baby and it hasn’t been easy at all so this was just another thing to have happen. I have my first appointment Wednesday with the MFM and diabetes nurse.

I did the same thing, even the second time I was diagnosed which I know was pretty much inevitable! Just try to stick to your given carbs per meal. Breakfast usually has the least amount of carbs. And watch the fat too, because high fat can make the carbs stick around and in turn keeping your numbers high! Lean meats like chicken and turkey! Dont skip meals, and try to eat all of your snacks!

I just had my nutritionist appt this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised with the 'diet' to follow. I had dinner tonight and it was basically what I would eat anyway - I think for me it's just managing those extra clearly sugary carby foods that I would indulge in. I was reassured that baby would be fine if I keep it all under control, and that's what the diagnosis is for to manage it. 
I joined the GD group too, we can do this!
