FTM: is sleep training worth doing? Does it work?

I’ve been asking relatives but they are unreliable and I’m doing parenting totally different than I grew up...

It’s not really something you can do until they’re about 6 months. It also depends on the method. 
Honestly my first is 2 and we never “sleep trained “ him. He just had regular sleep patterns and we adjusted.

Really depends on the child. My first started sleeping 10 hrs straight at night when he was 1 month old. I’m really hoping we get lucky this second time 🤞

We sleep trained my daughter at about 4.5 months because we had been rocking her to sleep—which took hours—and then she was waking up every 1-2 hours a night and didn’t know how to fall back asleep on her own (and at that age, I knew she didn’t need to nurse that frequently at night). We did a version of “cry it out” where we would check on her at increasing intervals of time until she fell asleep. Once she learned to fall asleep on her own, she would still wake up once or twice to nurse during the night until she was 9 or 10 months old, but she wasn’t waking up every few hours like she had been before. I am not exaggerating when I say that sleep training saved my sanity. I started my girl at 6-8 weeks. She is a brilliant sleeper now. And has been since about 6 months. I’ll be doing it with this bub too. All babies are different so I may have to tweak what I do but I will absolutely do it again.

I never had to worry about it with either of my first 2. They both started sleeping through the night before 6 months. I honestly would have no idea what to do if #3 is colicky and doesn’t sleep.

I was not going to sleep train until I read the book "baby wise". It dosen't tell you how to sleep train but it teaches you about how to set your baby up for success with breast feeding and sleeping. My husband's cousin has followed it for 4 children and swears by it! 
It has a little bit of a bad rap on the internet but all of the bad reviews I read were from people who had not actually read the book or who did not understand it lol

I started at 2 months just at bed time because it was just me with her 24/7 while Husband was away with the Marines. I needed some sort of sanity in my life lol

We did not do hard core sleep training with our first but we started right off the bat with some guidelines. No sleeping in our bed when she was a newborn, and then our “sleep training” was, as long as we knew she had everything she needed, we would let her cry for 5-10 mins segments and then go in and comfort her by rubbing her back. Made it a rule to never pick her up. Now she’s 2.5 and always has gone down without a fuss for naps and bedtime and sleeps a solid 10-11 hours at night.

We did at 4 months old. Naps during the day were a complete nightmare and I was at a loss. It was the best thing we ever did. You won’t regret it!
