I said poll because I have both. Side by side is great for out and about and typically a much smoother ride. However, tandem fits waaaay better through doors and such, and I find it easier for when they are little. We use the tandem for inside (groceries, mall, etc) and the side by side for anything outdoors

I haaaate pushing long carts and things. So difficult to steer. I found a side by side that steers like a dream (had my 4 and 2yos test it out) at a consignment store, and I couldn't be happier. It's a City Mini GT double.
