Is this tacky? 😖😖

I'm really over thinking putting this in my son's 2nd birthday invites. Too late now but I'm worried people will be mad that I don't want actually gifts or toys for him. Our play room is exploding and he hasn't outgrown his Christmas toys yet

I think it’s okay. You’re not demanding they buy from a certain list, but rather asking that they gift things he’ll use. I guess it’s no different than a registry or wish list 🤷🏼‍♀️

I find it tacky when people micromanage the gifts, especially unprompted. If somebody asks it’s perfectly fine to respond with “oh he has sooo much from Christmas, please don’t worry about it” but to say specifically that he should be given toys for an older age is tacky IMO. People will take the hint and do gift cards in most cases, you don’t need to give them a list.

We actually did this for our daughter’s second birthday and we got swim passes for the summer, ticket to the museum, and the indoor play land thing the have in the bigger city which was awesome and she loved them

I think it's fine. I've talked to everyone who buys for my daughter and asked them to go easy on the toys. They don't like it, but they understand. It's also only grandparents, an aunt and uncle, and a good friend so I feel comfortable having this discussion with them. I'm always polite and appreciative, but I do think having too many toys is bad for my child, so we definitely limit how much she has and how much is out at one time. I have a SIL that has asked for no toys, clothes, books, movies, or memberships and to only buy one item per child. I suggested we just not buy for each other's children since we all have plenty of stuff and she said her children would get their feelings hurt by that. Pretty sure they're getting a toothbrush for their birthdays. 🤷‍♀️ I don't want to be that uptight, because I completely understand how exciting it is to buy for kids, but my main concern is raising my child in a way that's in line with my values. I've also been told I'm mean for not letting her eat candy, drink juice or watch cartoons. Oh well. They all had their chance to raise their children how they saw fit, my husband and I will decide how to raise ours.

I don't think this is tacky at all. Honestly, I don't understand people who get offended at stuff like this - you can parent how you want, and if this is the decision you're making in the best interest for your child, your friends should understand. 
This is very nicely worded and I think it's a great idea and I think your son will appreciate the experiences more than just more toys.

Idk, I had a family member do this and I thought it was tacky but the situation was different ; she wanted everyone to buy her kid clothes so she didn't have to,she does that type of thing a lot though. I bought clothes and a toy since I thought it wasn't fair that the kid got nothing but clothes because her mom didn't want to have to provide those things herself. Your situation seems different though and the card is worded nicely.
