Potty training UPDATED

Emily

So we got this adorable puppy yesterday and his previous owners trained him to use puppy pads so he’s not trained to whine or anything when he has to go outside and this is our first time training an actual puppy and need advice on how to potty train him. We’ve saying ah loudly when we catch him going potty but when we take him outside he will not go potty at all. We took him and our older dog out to the lake for a hike today and he didn’t go once and we were there for almost two hours and waited until we walked into the front door to go potty and does this every time we take him outside. Any advice about potty training would greatly appreciated

First

pic when we got him yesterday and second is after the lake trip! He got super muddy with all this Oklahoma red dirt

Update:

So we got puppies pads and have been taking him out with the other dog and absolutely nothing is working! Still no warning signs for when he’s about to go pee and he refuses to go in the pads. We’ve been kenneling him when we can’t keep an eye on him and take him out as soon we left him out of it and he will not go potty outside

First make sure theres no distractions for the pup when outside, also once you're taking the pup out pick a method that suits you, for example i used to take my pups paws and scratch the door ( she didnt whine when she needed to go, so i taught her a way to lemme know if she needs out). Make sure u got dog treats and once the pup does potty outside, rather give more treats than too lil. If u can, try use a word for it too, "pee, potty" whatever you like and use it for your older dog too, that way the new one will see "ok so he peed and then got cookies, maybe if i pee i get em too" also what u can do, if you currently got pads take a pad out when u wanna your pup to potty, or get some grass/soil and put it on your pad indoors. You said you use a word for when the pup pees/poops indoors, does the pup connect it to "doing whats not allowed"? The body language shows it all, if the pup doesnt connect the two then it won't matter what word you use.My fatass is 7 months old now and she learned it all, took maybe 2months for her to connect all the dots but i have plenty of time so i repeated myself over n over again n took her out every 2h. My father in law has 2 dogs n the new one usually learns everything from the older one. Mine also learned some commands from the older one. It should be an advantage that you've got a trained dog aswell. I hope i was of some help! Good luck😊👍

It might be weird but if he’s that used to potty pads maybe put one outside so he gets used to going outside. Maybe? Our shepherd was super picky, if there were neighbors, noise, etc outside she wouldn’t go outside and then would have accidents inside. Maybe up the frequency of when puppy goes out for a few days, say “outside” or a word like that, and then reward with a treat every successful potty/poo. Good luck..super cute fur baby!! 😍😍
