Is it okay to feed my 4 month old solids? It helps her sleep better

The AAP recommends waiting until at least six months before introducing solids, and NOT as a way to make your baby feel fuller but rather as a way to explore flavors and textures. If your baby is hungry, feed him/her breast milk or formula.

No. Both the AAP and the WHO both state it's best to wait until 6 months. It's a very outdated recommendation to begin at 4 months. Our pediatrician gave us the okay at 4 months as well due to our daughter sitting unassisted and meeting all the necessary milestones. Regardless, I still absolutely waited until 6 months.

Straight from the AAP website, not a parenting article but the actual website where it states more than once that solids should not be introduced until 6 months of age. Now, if you feel that your baby is ready for solids, I don’t feel like that is a bad thing. If your pediatrician has given the okay then do so but not so baby sleeps better.

My pediatrician gave my daughter the ok at 4 months because she was showing all signs of readiness . If a child is showing the signs then it is ok.

Well of course it helps her sleep better , they get fuller off of solids. But that shouldn’t be the only reason you introduce solids to her. Talk to your pediatrician first. I introduced solids at 4 months but she had good trunk control and could hold up her head, and herself without a problem. If your baby can’t do that it’s not a good idea.

I work in childcare, and there is quite a few parents who have started solids within the 4-6 month range. It may not be recommended by the AAP, but that’s also a general recommendation. It doesn’t go by every individual baby and their situations. Every baby is different and if you feel like it needs introduced in that range, make sure you talk to your pediatrician first. There might be a different way to fix whatever issue it is you have and if not, then most pediatricians won’t say no to some baby food 🤷🏼‍♀️

If she can’t sit straight in a high chair, opens her mouth when you bring a spoon to her mouth , and just to let you know it may not help her sleep better and she might get constipated from oatmeal or rice. But also ask your doctor first on the best ways to start
