My birth story😊 2/7/2019 40 weeks 3 day's
I woke up at around 2 a.m. On Thursday feeling different. Went to use the restroom noticed I had some discharge with a little blood. Didn't think much of it because for the past little while I had been losing my mucus plug/bloody show. Got done then went to the kitchen to grab a banana because I was feeling a hungry. Came and laid back down then started to feel crampy like strong period cramps. That's when I woke my S/O up and told him that I thought it was time. So after a little while later he downloaded the contraction counter to keep up with my contractions. After timing them for a little while it said we needed to go on to the hospital. So I got a shower as my S/O got everything ready and out to the car. He woke my son up and told him that the baby was coming so that he could get up and get ready to go to my sister's for the rest of the morning and go to school. We left the house dropped my son off at my sister's and made our way to the Women's Pavilion at TMH in Tallahassee about 40 minutes away from our house. We were worried about parking because previous experiences there showed us that parking was really slim, but we got lucky and found a spot right there close to the entrance. We got inside and they took us into triage right away. They hooked me up to a monitor to monitor my contractions and babies heart rate along with babies movement. After being there for a little while they checked to see how far dilated I was and determined I was about 4.5 cm dilated at that time and said I needed to walk for an hour or two to see if it would progress a little more. After walking for almost an hour both my S/O and I needed to use the restroom. We did and took a little break. Then they said if it doesn't progress any more after walking another hour we would have to go home and wait it out there. Which we didn't want to do because we live so far away. So we went and walked some more. There at about the end of the hour the contractions were getting stronger. We stopped walking and they checked me again and determined I was 5.5 cm dilated now and went ahead and admitted me into labor and delivery. We got in there and maybe an hour or two later I had to use the restroom and that's when my water broke as I peeing. My water was greenish brown so my S/O got the nurse to tell her about it and she said that the baby had pooped. Then the contractions started getting considerably stronger and that's when I decided to get the epidural. Before I could get it though I had to do a whole bag of fluids. When it was done they started another bag and a few minutes later the aneistesologist came in and we started the process of giving me the epidural and that's when the contractions were at their strongest. The whole time she was doing her prepping I was leaned up against my S/O. She worked very quickly between my contractions to get me set up with epidural. When she was done I laid back down and about 20 minutes later they checked to see how far dilated I was now. 10 cm now and it's time for Caroline to make her grand entrance into the world. The doctor came in and finished prepping for delivery. She watched the monitor to see when a contraction was starting to tell me to push seeing as though I wasn't able to feel them anymore. After about 6 good pushes she was here. She came out as healthy as can be. My S/O got to cut the cord and they immediately laid a blanket on my chest and laid her on me for a few minutes then took her and wiped her down so we could do the skin to skin contact. In that time we got her to latch and feed for a little while. After that my S/O did skin to skin contact with her. We stayed in labor and delivery for about two hours and they then moved us to another floor to an actual room. On the way there we stopped by the button to press to play a song over the intercom to announce that a baby was just born. We stayed 3 nights had a great nursing staff and an amazing experience for sure.
