I would never in my life use either of those options. Get on actual birth control of some kind and use condoms or like at least just use condoms. Those forms will most likely just cause infection or make you more prone to infection.

The sponge usually has spermicide in it, so probably more effective than spermicide by itself (no medical knowledge, that is an assumption). There are also female condoms. If you’re looking for OTC because of access, not lack of hormones, you should pick up plan b- it’s good to have on hand and takes a while to expire!
