Nursing vs pumping question!

My husband is constantly making comments about our daughter being hungry and it makes me feel terrible like she isn’t getting enough from me! She mostly nurses but takes maybe one bottle a day that her daddy gives her and she sucks down 4 oz easy! (She is 6 weeks tomorrow and is between 9 lbs ad 10 lbs—was only 7lbs at birth). I think he just feels better about the bottle because he can SEE how much she is eating, whereas with nursing it’s anyone’s guess how much she is eating. I never pull her off the breast- she eats until she decides to stop! She always seems satisfied afterward and is gaining weight just fine!! 😊

So that being said, I can pump 5+ ounces out of my good boob and 3+ out of my slacker boob (in 10 minutes or so and this is not completely emptying then either, it’s just what I have time to do). I already know that baby is more effective than the pump, so I’m wondering how much she might be eating when she is nursing?! She typically nurses about 18 minutes (sometimes switching sides, sometimes not). I just want my husband to recognize that she is getting plenty to eat when she nurses! Any insight, mommas?

As long as she has weight gain and 6-8 wet diapers a day she is getting plenty! Don’t let anyone make you doubt yourself. You’re doing amazing!!

My hospital offered a program where you could do a “weighted feed,” they will weigh baby before and after feeding to see how much milk they’ve taken. Might be worth looking into 🙂

That’s a good idea!

I did a weighted feed at 5 weeks. My son transferred 5oz! Also, if baby isn't being bottle fed slowly then she will guzzle it down. It's like drinking your milk from an open cup versus a straw- the less effort it takes to drink it then the faster it goes down.

Have him go with your baby’s next checkup so he can hear from the doctor himself that she is gaining weight and getting enough.

If she’s happy, like sleeping not crying or constantly chewing her hands... she’s fed and full! Trust me your husband would know if she was infact hungry
