Nothing went as planned

I didn’t think I could get pregnant, I was told most of my life it couldn’t happen. I have 2 illnesses and shortly after I got married my lung function dropped. I didn’t have enough to support me or a baby and I was told once again it couldn’t happen. A few months later my lung function increased and I was told to try. We tried once on Mother’s Day and 14 days later I was pregnant.

I had a pretty normal pregnancy besides extra doctor visits and ultrasounds. I was induced at 39 weeks because of my health issues. It went pretty smoothly, I went in on a Wednesday at 7pm and started my induction. The next morning nothing had changed so we increased medication. I was having contractions the entire time. The next day I was in pain so we got the epidural even though I was only 3cm. They popped my water to get things going I was at 2.5 days at this point. My daughter’s heart rate started dropping so they had to put a catheter of fluid inside of me and a band on the baby’s head to record her vitals. At 3 days I reached 10cm and was ready to push. I wanted a natural birth so bad, but my lungs gave up and I couldn’t go anymore. We decided to do a c-section.

The c-section was scary and I was so drugged I don’t remember much except being afraid and shaking like crazy. When I heard her cry I started to fall asleep.

I want to say I adore my doctor and she did a great job, but the nurses for my after care really messed up.

I kept bleeding extremely heavy and it smelled terrible and we told the nurses. My cousin even left my pads in the bathroom to show the nurses but they ignored it (my cousin is a RN). When they came in to tell me to walk they left me there. If my cousin wasn’t around to help me up and walk I would of fell. The pain was the worst I’ve ever felt and something was wrong. I kept telling them and they didn’t believe me, discharged me 2 days later.

I went home and couldn’t move. I started to get fevers and i bled through adult diapers like they were panty liners. Finally I went to the doctor and she was shocked I was discharged like this. I got blood everywhere during the exam and had to be put in the hospital.

After a lot of painful tests, I had sepsis, 3 major bacteria infections in an abscess and blood loss. I had to get a drain put in near my c section, and after a week in the hospital a picc line put in my arm for around the clock antibiotic iv’s at home for 2 weeks.

Everything went ok at home until one day my hand started to get numb. Turns out I have a blood clot in my arm from the piccline. They had to remove that in the hospital and now I’m on blood thinners for 3 months.

In the past month of my daughters life I’ve been away for 3 weeks. I haven’t been able to breast feed, I haven’t been able to take care of her. But I gave birth to a perfectly healthy little girl who is so much more than I could of imagined.
