Hair question for my African American ladies
So I recently just took down some braids I had, and contacted my hair braider for a hair appointment. I wanted some medium box braids just to get me through March. My birthday is in April and I already knew what style I wanted for that occasion.
I cut all my hair off in August, for no reason lol just wanted to start fresh, try something different. My hair before I cut it was shoulder length. I have 4a/4b(mainly) hair.
Since I cut my hair, she has did my hair 2 times, and 2-3 times before I cut it. The two styles I recently got were lemonade braids and some French braids, both took way more work and parting and I paid far less than what she wanted to charge me this go around. Which is confusing to me, why would you try to charge more for a style that takes less work?
My hair has noticeable hair growth everytime I take my braids out. To give you a visual it’s like a mini fro but you can put your hands in my hair and pull my curls and see them, no tight packed curls.
Here are the text messages exchanged between us. The second text was from yesterday.. I didn’t respond because I was honestly taken aback, also I’m on my period and I know how my mouth is. Also that pic is not her work.
If you’re wondering why I didn’t send a pic, it’s because I wore my scarf to work that night and my hair was all smashed down and I was on my way to bed.
My issue with the whole ordeal is the fact that we both live in the same city (at first she was doing hair out of her house in another city) but now she works in a shop cities over with limited public transportation to get to said city, and it costs me a $50 lyft ride just to get to her, which I didn’t mind because I like the way she does my hair. So with that being said you expect me to pay you $200 for a three week style, plus the hair is going to be like $20-$30, plus the lyft ride, plus the $25 deposit that doesn’t even count towards the cost of the hairstyle! Plus I tip her $30-40. Not even mentioning the fact that I have to catch lyft to the train station, plus another lyft from the train station to get back home. I just don’t see myself spending $300 to go get my hair done. Not only that, she’s not even licensed.
Ladies would you spend $200 on box braids by an unlicensed braider?
