Progesterone pills to start period?

Has anyone ever taken progesterone pills to start a period? When do they start to work? I’ve been a cranky, crampy mess all day and I’m hoping this means it’s about to start. I’m on cd 45.

Took it with my first and second.  Trying not with the third.  Does work is your flo irregular?

My dr prescribed them for me because i was spotting for 5 weeks at a time instead of having a period (this happened twice back to back). Started taking the pills on the 7th, got my period on the 13th. Then I had an HSG the 22nd.
