Have you had any negative experiences with NICU nurses/doctors?

Please share your negative experiences with your baby's NICU staff. I've recently been having a tough time dealing with some incidences that have happened with my baby at the hospital. I don't know exactly how to deal with it and would like some input on anything you've been through. Thanks.

And there was also a situation were my daughter was sick due to Staph infection. Just didn't know what source it came from. But there was a nurse that worked In the same pod my baby was in. Who had a habit with touching her phone and other objects without washing her hands or using sanitizer. And she was also pretty rough with her baby's. Thank God she wasnt caring for mine. But I still had to do the rite thing by telling her charge nurse. But when I did mention it to the charge nurse about the situation. All she did was made excuses for the nurses performance. So I had to take up to house supervisor and the chief nurse directory. I wasn't trying to make any trouble especially with my daughter being there at the NICU, which made it very awkward and scary.  But the nurse staff really have to be mindful when it comes to safety sanitation. I'm thankful my concerns were acknowledged and handled very professionally.

So my son is intact. One of his NICU nurses tried to tell me to retract his penis to clean it which is a big no no! Other than that conversation I loved all of his nurses and I'm so happy they took care of my boy.

I really struggled near the end. With the change in nurses we had different advice and plans every shift  (or so it seemed). One nurse was very passive aggressive - id been told baby's ng tube could be taken out by one nurse, but the next nurse wrote in the hospital notes that it was taken out at my request. Then any time baby was slow or didn't finish a bottle she'd say in a patronising voice that baby shouldn't have had the tube taken out. It just made it so hard to know where we were at and made me feel like I was hurting her or something. She was very unsupportive and i ended up having to get my midwife to talk to her because i couldnt handle her anymore. But it was just that one nurse - our Dr's and the other nurses were great. Hope you're not having issues...?

The doctors rotate shifts at our NICU and sometimes it seems like they have different views on how to move forward.  We brought up our frustration about this and since then it's been more consistent.  Our son has been there so long at this point (3 months) that all the nurses know us and pretty much let us do whatever want when we visit with him, but it wasn't always like that.

Yes I had a nurse who placed my daughter on her tummy without suctioning her mouth. And when her monitor kept going off back to back. Which was kind of unusual. Because that hardly ever happened, not when I was there. But all the nurse did was muted the monitor, so she wouldn't hear the Alarm. Without checking to see if my daughter was OK. Thank God I was there rite beside her incubator, because I could hear her cry for the first time. It was the cutest thing I've heard, made my heart melt. But it was a red flag. You're not supposed to be able to hear a baby cry when they have a breathing tube down their throat. So when i hurried and informed the nurse, that my daughter was crying. That's when she took action and all the nurses and doctors had to rush me out of the NICU room. To put place the tube back in her mouth. Afterwards her doctor stated that her breathing tube slipped out of her mouth,  due to alot of saliva. And her nurse tried to lie her way of it. By telling the other nurses that I wouldn't let my baby sleep, I was playing with her too much thats how it slipped out.  Like really come on who would lie like that? The nurse didn't follow  protocol if you're going to mute Any baby's monitor. Make sure you check on them first. Thank God I was there to hear my baby cry. No telling what would've happened if I wasn't.

Only thing we have had was one nurse is really rough with the babies. She just isn't careful with them. Thankfully she has only been our nurse twice.

I had one of the nurses at the hospital my son was born before he got transferred kind of be rough with picking him up. I definitely didn't like that considering he was very premature at that time (29 weeks). Glad he got transferred now! Nurses at the hospital hes at now are very gentle with him.
