My almost 4 month old falls asleep on his own most of the time. He also sleeps through the night. I do a nightly routine that includes swaddling. All my babies liked to be swaddled and it signals bedtime to them so once they were swaddled they’d get super sleepy. I also only put him to bed in my bedroom for night time sleep only. No naps in my bedroom. Only naps in a crib in the nursery. My room is also dark, cool, with a fan on to create white noise. I did this with all three of my babies and all slept very well and through the night at early ages. Also, napping in the crib during the day helps them transition to overnight sleep in the crib later on. I usually keep them in my bedroom room until 7-8 months.

My son started sleeping in his crib after 8 weeks and he would sleep around 8-9 hours through the night at that time. We used zipper swaddles and a sound machine with blackout curtains. We started intense sleep training around 6 weeks, but we started a schedule from the day he was born so he knew he would only eat/sleep when we told him to. Around 4 months he went through a regression so he started waking up 1-2 times a night rather than sleeping his normal 12-14 hours a night. When he would wake up I would give him a pacifier, say “shhhh shhhh” and rub his back. I’d also turn on his Ewan the Dream Sheep toy and he’d play with that and watch his glowing heart until eventually falling asleep on his own.
