Question

Do any of you have any recommendations for dairy free preemie formula. I believe my little guy has a milk allergy/intolerance. I breastfeed and formula feed.. NICU orders. He’s on Similac Neosure 22, but projectile vomits every time we feed him that. He’s also had diarrhea, gas build up, and fussiness after feedings which is what leads me to believe he has a dairy allergy. We’re waiting for a call from the nutritionist but for now do any of you have recommendations??

My son used nutramigen, he wasnt preemie though. I wouldnt make any changes before you get your call. And dont be afraid to keep calling back if they are taking forever.

My son had a severe allergy from 5 weeks until 4 months. He couldn’t even handle nutramigen, so he was on an amino acid formula called Elecare. It was expensive and could only be bought online, but it completely changed his digestion and was worth it for the time being. At 4 months we tried dairy again, and he was able to take all of my frozen breastmilk and then regular formula. Good luck to you guys!

We went through a couple different types with my son and finally settled on ensure by Enfamil. It’s gentlease so helps with gas but the formula is close to breast milk.

My daughter has been on neosure for 3 months now and was really pukey to start with. A lot of times preemies have an immature valve that causes them to puke more. After a few weeks she got a lot better. I think it just takes their tummies time to adjust to the formula because it is extra fortified.

My son’s not a preemie, but we had issues with similac sensitive AND Enfamil Gentlease. We put him on Nutrimigen around 3.5 moths and have had no problems since. It was like night and day!

How far is the projectile vomit going? Like over a foot away from baby or just a couple inches away? If it’s truly projectile then he needs to be seen and have an ultrasound for pyloric stenosis

Have you ruled out reflux? My preemie is on neosure too and was like that until I started reading on reflux. We extra burp her, keep her inclined while sleeping with a wedge pillow, and I keep her upright for 20-30 min after eating no matter what. It lets gravity help her out . I’ve read a lot of babies have an under developed valve, preemies even more so. They’re still catching up you know. Good luck

My daughter was allergic to soy,goat, and cow based formulas, and would projectile vomit every feeding. I am so happy to have found this hypoallergenic formula, it doesnt contain any sugars, maltodextrin, or corn syrups like the US formulas. Since starting then she spits up less, no longer vomits, her poop is closer to what it was when she was exclusively breast fed, and less gas. The formula is from Germany so I have to order online and cant buy in store,but it has been so worth it to have quality ingredients! Best of luck!
