What's the nail difference between gel and acrylics??? What's better??

Gel is a gloopy substance that is harded under a uv/led lamp that can either be used for extentions or overlays. Acrylic is a powder and liquid that air dries and can be used for extensions or overlays. Gel is kinder to the natural nail and more durable then acrylic and as a quailified nail tech I would always recommend gel over acrylic however it's what you're more comfortable with

There are different types of gel. You have soak-off gel ( your typical gel polish that comes in a variety of colors, pretty much on the natural nail length or on acrylic), hard gel which is typically used for overlays or extensions (sculpted or tips), and polygel which a thicker “hybrid” gel that is used in a variety of ways with extensions (Gelish is the popular polygel). All require a UV/LED light to cure/harden the product. 
Acrylic can be used as an overlay or extensions (sculpted or tips). Traditional acrylic is a powder and monomer (liquid that looks purple). It comes in a variety of colors, not just clear and pink. That’s where you see a lot of “permanent designs”, all the different colored acrylic. Dip Powder is an acrylic powder and liquid resin (essentially nail glue, like with nail wraps that aren’t popular today) to harden/cure. It’s not healthier than traditional acrylic, even though it promotes having added vitamins. That only accounts for like 5% of the product and doesn’t really absorb into the nail plate to make any real difference.
All enhancements are prepped the same to prevent lifting and ensure proper adhesion of product. Proper prep leads to healthy nails regardless of what enhancement you choose.
As a licensed nail technician, I always ask my clients about their work and life. That’s how we determine what is best for their nails and what their goals with their nails are.  I never offer “dip nails” because it’s wasteful and unsanitary. Many big artists in the community agree that dip is a trend that needs to vanish.
