I'm getting ready to buy things that my soon to be born son might need.
What kind of medicine do I need
(Gipe water, diaper cream, pain reliver)
 
Why do you recommend?
I don't wanna miss something I might need.

This is what I always keep on hand and easily accessible for my son:
Infant Tylenol 
Bandaids 
Neosporin (the original ointment without pain reliever)
Gripe water and/or gas drops 
Hydrocortisone 1% (use for rashes on dr orders only)
Aquaphor ointment 
Diaper rash cream (we like Angel baby and Boudreauxs)
Cerave cream in the tub (for dry skin or eczema)
Saline drops for the Nosefrida 
I’ve also heard Zarbees is great for coughs, but I don’t have it on hand because I don’t want it to expire.

Don’t forget childrens Benadryl! 6 month old had an allergic reaction to eggs (hives and itchy throat) and we were glad we had it! (Just had to call the dr for proper dose for so young.

We've used very little in our daughter's (almost) 2 years of life: Tylenol, Motrin, saline drops, and Vicks BabyRub are really all we've bought. We've used diaper rash cream once and it wasn't even for a rash (we've had zero rashes in her lifetime). I've also never used gripe water or all these other random cold meds, but she's only been sick once.

This is just what I personally used for medicine: Little remedies gas drops and saline nose spray, boogie wipes, a humidifier (we have the crane drop one,) and pure garlic mullein oil for ear infection. We don’t like to give Tylenol and that type stuff personally and haven’t had to yet; our babies are 20 months and 10 weeks.
For diaper cream I’ve always used desitin for poops and A&D for pees and neither one has ever had a diaper rash.

I’ve used all of it 
Barely used the diaper cream but glad I have it. You won’t want to have to run out in the early days to find something while your baby needs it was my theory
