ECV? Have you had one? Are you getting one ?

Question

External Cephalic Version, when you go to the hospital and they try to manually turn a breech baby. 
The midwifes at my practice really seem to be pushing it and I’ve heard nothing but negative things.

My experience was TERRIBLE! I didn’t have a midwife idk if their technique is different.  But it felt like a burning sensation, they don’t massage slowly to get started, they go right into shoving the baby.
I cried the ugliest loudest cry of my life. They tried twice, took a break in between. They asked if I wanted to try again & hubby said NO!
I don’t recommend it. I had a c-section & while it wasn’t my number one choice it was the only other way.
Honestly my recovery has been great.

I just had one today! Yep super super uncomfortable but as someone else said I was really happy we went through with it to try to avoid a c section! Unfortunately the stubborn guy didn’t move to I’m back to my spinning baby exercises, acupuncture, chiro treatments and moxibustion! Wish us luck!

I was going to have one Wednesday. Everything up until the procedure went really well.
However, they brought in the ultrasound tech to see where the baby was, how much fluid I had, and where the cord was. . . And then we had to cancel the procedure bc it looks like the cord might be wrapped around the baby. 
I’ve heard mixed reviews and for me, doing the ECV was definitely worth not having a c-section.  Unfortunately I didn’t turn out to be a good candidate for the procedure. 
If your midwives think you’re a good candidate and you want to deliver naturally its probably a good idea to try it.

My ob gave the option to schedule it, be induced that same day to lessen the chance of him turning again. And they won’t even turn the baby without me having an epidural because they said it’s too painful.

I had this procedure on Tuesday. She tried to turn our baby 4 times and it was not happening. Baby went from frank breech legs up to footling which is feet down. A worse position now. Baby’s head is wedged under my boob so quite painful and won’t budge. I found ecv to be very painful and I’m sore and bruised two days on. Again I agree with the other girl I’m glad we have it s good. As we’ve tried but we’ve not got a c section planned for 11th March. Unless baby turns when I get scanned on that morning. If not we get sent home and go the natural route. Midwife say it’s highly unlikely for baby to turn now. As we’re 38wks tomorrow. Good luck girls.

I have not and I also don’t know anyone who had one successfully. With that said, I read an article yesterday and they said to ask for an epidural before the doctors attempt the procedure and the chances of success go way up. Maybe you could ask about that?

My experience was great with it even though they were unable to flip my frank breech son. I know going into it I was at a larger chance of it not working but I would have regretted not trying. I had two doctors hands on belly. Baby never had any complications. Pain was nothing. For me, it personally gave me peace of mind knowing I tried everything to avoid a C-section. Great medical staff that put my health and baby’s first.

My doctor suggested it only if I was dead set on having her vaginally. I’m not doing it. Seems like unnecessary stress for me and my baby. And even if the risks are small I don’t think it’s worth it.

Has the baby engaged? If so then the procedure is even less likely to work.
