8 years on the Depo Shot
First of all, this is my very first post in this app so i’m super nervous but I need some feedback!
I’m turning 23 in August and was put on the depo shot when I was 15. I’ve basically been on the shot off and on for 8 years. I NEVER had a period the whole time I was on the shot. I got off it once when I was 18 and still didn’t get a period at all while off of it and then when I got my health insurance back, I got back on it and still never had periods.
Flash forward to about 4 months ago, I decided to get off the shot again because I’m married now and eventually want to have kids (sooner than later) but for 3 months my period never showed up.
I decided to go in to the doctor a little over a month ago and started the pill (Sprintec) in hopes that it would force my body to have a period (after not having one for 8 years) so that I could “regulate” my period, hopefully get it on a schedule, and then just be off birth control all together. So not necessarily trying to conceive but, not preventing it either. I did get a period the very first month on the pill that lasted about 4 days!
I’m super anxious to be off birth control but I’m scared that when I stop taking the pill my periods will either stop coming or not be regular. My doctor obviously can’t guarantee anything but she said I could stop taking the pill after 3 months to see how my body acts. I’m just so impatient!
Has anyone else had a similar experience to this? And if so, how long did it take for your body to regulate or to conceive after being on birth control so long?
