Are you a parent at conception?

Question

Having a debate with a coworker. Are you a parent once you conceive and know you’re pregnant. Even if you have a miscarriage. 
Or are you a parent at the birth of your baby? Or are both right?

I think it’s a personal opinion.
I myself wouldn’t consider myself a mother until I have the baby in my arms. 
But many women would consider themselves a mother when as soon as they find out they’re pregnant.
Both are correct! Whatever you want!

I've had 5 miscarriages and I consider myself a mother. I may not have been able to raise them but I did have 5 babies and I was their mother
