Yep. 7 long and painful years that drove me to the absolute brink. Take my advice and LEAVE. It doesn't get better.

Each situation is unique so it's hard to answer, but I have read a million things to try and understand my husband better, alcoholics anonymous is a helpful book, it explains that there are basically 4 categories of alcoholics, and how best to understand and approach each category.
The biggest thing we HAVE to remind ourselves is that they are sick, they can't control what is happening to them, but if we love them and want to help them it is better to treat them like someone who has pnumonea, not someone who is just being a selfish ass  hole. 
If  they aknowlege their illness and say they want to get help then that's a big step They will relapse but at least they want to try. , but if they're not ready you can't force it. You can plant the seed but only they can have the want to get themselves better and they HAVE to want to do it for themself.
I hope you're ok. Good luck with everything. My husband started this behaviour over 4 years ago, and it's only been the last few months that he's started to talk about stopping and getting help, he is still yet to do so but he at least acknowledges the situation and tries to do it cold turkey but lasts maybe 3 weeks at best. So our next step is getting him to see someone.

I was with a drug addict.... unfortunately the constant replace even with treatment caused us to end things. Almost 10 years later and he is still battling it. It’s a very hard thing to go through but there is so many programs to help them and family members! Shutting them out DOES NOT work. Please don’t try this very common suggestion. People who are struggling with addiction NEED family.

Never fight when they drink, it’ll get you nowhere.
Never leave unless they just won’t try.
Always and I mean always provide understanding even when you don’t and never will.
Involve family, they deserve to know the truth and can probably help.
Be there to talk and figure out what the root cause is.
Remember YOU ARE NOT THE REASON.
Regardless if they remember everything there are things they say that they just don’t mean. 
Don’t hold expectations, they will have slip ups.
Always look at the progress.
Don’t have sex while they drink unless you are also drunk... 
I stopped drinking completely but this isn’t something I think changed anything.
Stay positive.
Get your OWN support.
Keep your support close.
Don’t feel like you have to join them to make them enjoy your company, you’re way too good for that.
Have a hobby that you can’t be drunk doing, and go do it, solo or not do it for yourself.
Never involve kids in the situation unless there are changes being made.
Don’t be that girl that works while he sits and drinks all day.
Show him how amazing of a life you live without him, it’ll click, hopefully soon, if not leave his ass because you deserve the world and then some. (Something he can’t give you as an alcoholic)

I dated an alcoholic for 8 years. We began dating when I was 17 and he was 23. He began drinking a year drinking a year into our relationship. Honestly I feel like it ruined me. I lost out on my young adult years and grew up way too quickly. I will stay still anyone again who develops a drinking problem. It's not worth your time and you deserve so much better!
