Was There Meconium in Your Water? AND Were You Overdue?

Just wondering what your experiences were because I’m really scared of this tbh. Not just for the baby but because I want a waterbirth and they won’t let you have one if there’s meconium.

I was induced at 39 weeks exactly for BP, i had my baby at 39+3 idk if it was all the intervention but when they broke my water they saw quite a bit but she was perfectly fine, just did a little suction

Meconium is normal in many term and later term babies. It’s not necessarily a sign of distress, so that’s frustrating they won’t let you in the water, if so. Meconium is not a contraindication for a water birth..that’s not at all evidence-based.

With my second i was 39 weeks and 5 days when i went into labor, my doctor broke my water and there was meconium. He told me not to be upset if she didn't cry right away and that would actually be good if she didn't because she would suck it into her lungs if she cried. Well she let out the biggest cry as soon as she came out the NICU team was there and suctioned out her lungs and she was fine didn't go to the NICU she stayed in my room with me she weighed 7lbs 14oz! She is now a very happy and healthy 6 year old.

I was in labor for 33 hours and my water didn’t break until maybe 30 hours and I had a fever my baby had meconium in womb. And we saw it in the water. Thank God she didn’t swallow any but she had 103 fever when she was born and still went to nicu for 48 hours

I was over due by three days and I got a fever about four hours before giving birth ( I was already in labor for about 12 hours ) they put me in antibiotics. I had a pretty normal vaginal birth . Baby came out with a temperature of 104.1 . They had to take baby to nicu and they kept her for three days on antibiotics to make sure she got better. I stayed on antibiotics for two days and got to go home but she had to stay an extra day. Now she’s 6 weeks today and she’s very healthy and is gaining weight great!
