Don’t 😕

So I’ve seen a lot of posts on here of women being a few days late for their period or even one day late in some instances, and they’ve been getting negative tests. Then they go on to say they’re thinking of going into urgent care or the ER to see if they’re pregnant hoping to get a blood test or even an ultrasound. Well first off trying to see if you’re pregnant isn’t an emergency. It’s not what hospitals should be used for. If you want a blood test since you think the tests you’ve tried aren’t accurate go to a free clinic or schedule an appointment with your doctor. Don’t take up space in an emergency room for that. There are people there with actual emergencies being pushed back because of you. Second of all if you’re hoping to get an ultrasound done you’re also just taking up valuable resources when it’s most likely too early to see anything. That goes for women that are already pregnant too that go in for an ultrasound because they can’t wait until their appointment. Don’t do it . If you’re pregnant and bleeding then by all means go to the emergency room. But don’t go in just because you can’t wait until your appointment to see your baby or get bloodwork done.

Edit: There’s been a few posts saying “women who have miscarried just want peace of mind and you don’t know their past” etc. I’ve had two miscarriages. One at 22 weeks and one at 13 weeks. I know how devastating it is believe me. However you do not go into the urgent care or ER to just check on your baby. That’s what your OB or doctors office is for. You can even go to a free clinic. My point is that it’s not an emergency which is what hospitals should be used for.

YES! I hate when I read “I went to the ER today because I just couldn’t wait until 8 weeks for an ultrasound!” 🙄

Nope! She let me do one at 19 weeks. So I ended up paying for a private place to get an ultrasound at 16

20 week?! That’s insane. They don’t want to do one at 8 or 12 weeks for dating or genetic disorders?

For real! My ER co-pay is $200 where my OB Office co-pay is $25

Yes!!! Honestly, you're pregnant for 9 freaking months. Waiting a few days to either get a positive test or a period will not make a difference for you in the long run.

Only to get a pregnancy test or to get an ultrasound and make women that honestly need to be seen look bad. I wouldn’t ever lie about something like that I feel that is bad karma and wouldn’t risk my babies health just to get an ultrasound. When I was pregnant with my baby I didn’t have insurance that covered my pregnancy and my doctor didn’t wanna order and ultrasound since he knew I couldn’t pay so he suggested I tell the nurse at my next visit I had cramps and bleeding guess what I did ? I said oh hell nah that’s like asking for something to happen to my baby I’d rather pay then to do something inconsiderate like that.

It’s frustrating to see this women come in and lie about “bleeding” and abd cramps

It sounds like your sister had a good reason to be seen but again that’s not what we’re talking about we’re talking about the repetitive people who abuse Er the system and waste time and resources. The fact that people can’t comprehend that is also mind blowing. I am sorry that your sister went through that and Ian happy things worked out for her. Again she had a good reason to go in and you don’t need to defend that. Maybe to you it’s inconsiderate but to me

Me too! They don’t realize how much this raises the cost of healthcare in general! Have patience and make an appointment if it’s not serious!!

Thank you for saying this! Also, perhaps more insurance should be like mine- if you go to the ER and are seen and they determine it not to be an emergency, you are on the hook for everything. It certainly could help some think a little harder about how emergent their situation is. Of course, if you really do need to be seen, the billing is taken care of. Works out well for all involved :)

I don't think patients should be on the hook (any more than they otherwise would be) if something is determined to be a non-emergency. There are plenty of times you might go to the ER for legitimate concerns but it turns out not to be an emergency. Like, once I got a cut on my eye. First I went to urgent care and they didn't have the equipment to look at it so they recommended I go to the ER just in case. Since it was the weekend, opthalmologists were all closed too. Anyhow, they looked at it, said it looked ok but referred me to an opthalmologist for follow up. Point being, I ended up being fine but I didn't know that going in. Would have preferred to spend my weekend doing pretty much anything else. If you're in pain, maybe it's something serious or maybe it ends up not being serious.

Your situation is obviously not what I was referring to. I don't know what kind of insurance bills you immediately so you would have been on the hook, but mine would have looked at the situations cumulatively to determine, not just decided you were wrong right away.

Meaning i dont agree with being on the hook if the hospital classifies it as a non emergency.

Here’s another reason- you could potentially pick up some nasty germs by exposing yourself to what’s hanging out in the ER! 😷

I wasnt around any sick people at all except for that one time I went to the hospital. And no, j did not have the flu shot at that time which was my fault

You're exactly right. I went in to the ER because I was bleeding heavily and thought I was miscarrying. The day after I was coughing uncontrollably and felt terrible. 2 weeks later it was getting worse and worse so I went in and they told me I had the flu

Seriously. I had insanely high blood pressure (had to monitor at home because this kept happening) and could barely walk I was so dizzy I went to the hospital and they put me in a room and didn’t even come check my vitals. Left me there for over an hour and then made me leave saying there was nothing wrong with me. I wound up being induced two days later because it wasn’t safe for me or my son to wait for his due date. But hospitals seriously treat pregnant women like crap and it’s because some women seriously abuse it. **Always go if you think something is wrong. And advocate for yourself. You know your body and your baby better than anybody.

Yes! I had to go in like 6 times saying there was something wrong before they finally believed me and realized I DID have preeclampsia 🤦🏻‍♀️

I hate seeing women suggest the ER to other women for these reasons. Then when you're pregnant and REALLY need the ER they treat you like crap because people abuse/misuse the services. I have a bleeding disorder and was bleeding heavily after getting 12 positive at home tests. So I went to the ER and was treated like I was garbage and told to "just go to your OB/GYN on monday". Even though I had a high risk of hemorrhaging

I feel that. I was miscarrying (still in first trimester) and the doctor at the ER called me an idiot and talked to me in a condescending voice that you would speak to a dumb child with and tried to explain that it was my period. I wiped the blood from my (at that point) heavily blood soaked pants on her skin and flicked her off. They didn't even try to stop the very heavy bleeding or give me a pregnancy test to confirm what I was saying. I hate the ER. They also once told my husband that he was just having gas when he in fact was having a confirmed "heart event". The doctor said that it was impossible because he was only 27 at the time despite my husband's family's extensive history with early heart problems. My grandmother literally died for nearly 3 minutes and they didn't do anything because "she was most likely just either sleeping or faking it". Finally, a different nurse came in cussing and saved her. Then they said that her very obvious stroke wasn't a stroke at all and that she was obviously faking and shouldn't come back to the ER eith "false claims" then promptly kicked her out only for her to have a heart event when she went to bed that night where she chose to go to a different ER this time and they finally helped her. ERs suck mostly because the doctors there suck but it certainly does not help that people come in and abuse the system. It makes it that much harder for them to take you seriously.

Yes because when I went when I was miscarrying they tried to dismiss me but I was actually miscarrying and I had the rudest doctor ever just cause I was pregnant and at the hospital with bleeding and I was freaking out because of past miscarriages 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄

Also - the women who do 10- 15 tests every month, every day starting 1 DPO is just a waste of resources. Have some patience; it’s just a few days. It’s also less stressful when you’re not obsessing about it consuming your mind actually increases your chances. 👌😑

Exactly! You cant even get a positive until at least 9 DPO! At least in my experience

Omg this subject deserves it own post😂 I take 3 max starting 10 DPO if it’s still stark white at 14 DPO I know it’s a no that month. People crack me up with the over kill on the testing. It’s just waisting money 😂

Yes I replied to a post like this with the same sentiment and she reported my comment. Yes it’s not what you want to hear but it’s the truth. It’s not an emergency
