Vacation in Italy?

Question

Has anyone been to Italy for a vacation? Did you get a guided tour? I’m hoping to go to Florence and Rome this November or next spring in the off-season with the hubby. We never had a honeymoon so this would be it.

I went to Rome for part of my honeymoon June ‘17. We did guided tours to get the touristy things out of the way. Check out tips on trip advisor forums. The underground colosseum tour is awesome but the English tours sell out within minutes. We ended up going on a Spanish speaking tour but we weren’t the only English only speaking ones. Just don’t tell the guide because it might piss them off (ours was mean). Check out that forum I mentioned to get the website and when the dates you want open up.  I wouldn’t drive. We got a chauffeur from the airport to our air bnb and back to the airport. We used Rome-chauffeur and it was 60 euros, really worth it. Our airbnb was right down the street from the colosseum (you can see it from our window) so we had access to all of the tour. We were only there for 4 days and it was way too much time honestly. We did an all day tour that hit all of the popular spots and the Vatican. Then we did the colosseum underground tour. We walked around and found the Jewish ghettos. There are a lot of Africans and middle easterners that try to sell you stuff. Just don’t make eye contact because they can get aggressive. We had spent 2 weeks of our vacation traveling Ireland and loved it way way better. It was beautiful, people were friendly, and it wasn’t over crowded with tourists.

I went with EFTours on 2 different trips one was just Italy for a week and the other was Ireland England wales Scotland and Paris for 23 days. They included airfare hotels and at least 2 meals a day. The had a tour bus and planned activity’s as well as free time to go off on your own.

My parents got back from a nearly month-long trip to Italy about four months ago. They did several guided tours, and said they were glad they did for two reasons: 1) It’s easy to get lost in a country you don’t know well, and their tour guides were typically college graduates in history, so they had a lot of fascinating information that an audio tour wouldn’t have covered, and 2) they say a lot of Italians speak English, but it’s really limited. They were glad to be able to communicate with some other tourists, as well as interact with the locals in a positive manner.

I have been to Italy on multiple occasions.👌🏾 Once, when I was a teenager, we had a guided tour. Italy is a great vacation spots. I have been to Rome, Venice, Florence, and Milan. We actually have an upcoming trip to Rome for the summer for my father's 60th birthday. Me, my father (obviously), my mother, my husband, our 16-month old daughter (she will be 20 months at that time), my in-laws, and some more family members are going. My husband and I are excited to take our daughter! There is A LOT to do see in Italy and the food is delicious!👍🏾

Went to Italy my favorite place!! My husband and I used rick Steve’s books and they were the best!! 
We did both guided and non guided tours. We personally liked the non guided tours cuz we like to see a lot of things when we travel and we saw a lot of stuff while we were there. We didn’t like how slow the guided tours were. 
Plus if you get the rick Steve’s books there is an app you can get and it has tours on there that you can listen too!! 
If you go to Rome make sure you give yourself enough time, Rome is huge and there is so much to see and do!!

Yes husband and I went to Spain, France and Italy on a tour the company is Go Ahead Tours and it was amazing, stress free and had an amazing time. We went to French Riviera and visited a few towns in Italy and We stayed in Florence 3 nights. They have a lot of different options check them out online.
