Wondering if your kid will be scarred by potty training if they’re “not ready”?
Here’s my potty trained daughter, literally trying to put a diaper on herself 😂 one of the “signs of readiness” I’ve read is that the kid should be hating diapers. This little one is still a diaper fan, but she’s potty trained! We still give her a diaper for night time but she stays dry even in the diaper, preferring instead to be taken to the potty a few hours after bed time!
In case it’s not obvious, I don’t believe in potty training “readiness.” In the US in the years just prior to the invention of the disposable diaper, almost all children were potty trained by 18 months, and the first studies about “readiness” were introduced about 5 years after disposable diapers were introduced. My family decided it was time to potty train, and my daughter picked it up nearly flawlessly in less than a week, without any of the traditional signs of readiness. She’s also totally not traumatized by the potty or potty training. She loves seeing her pee in the potty and she claps when she sees anyone else go in the toilet. She does like her diapers still, but it was time to say bye bye! 😁
