I had a bad day
I just wanted to vent a bit.
I was a student teacher in a self contained classroom for low functioning student with autism. At the end of my placement, I asked my mentor if it would be ok if I came to visit. She said absolutely, they would be happy to see me again.
I’ve been back a couple times. Never for more than 15 minutes, and never more than once a week. A couple times I just dropped by to say hi and give my former mentor an update on where I was applying (she wanted me to keep her posted). This is never during class time, so I’m not taking away from instruction. The most recent visit, I was asking her to write me a letter of recommendation.
Turns out the new student teacher thinks it was “inappropriate” for me to go to the school to make that request. She complained to her professor, and now my professor has asked me to stop going to make the complaints stop. He says there was nothing wrong with what I did, but it’s best not to make the other student teacher uncomfortable.
I’m so upset. I feel like I haven’t done anything wrong, but now I’m not allowed to visit my former students or even thank my former mentor in person. I wrote her an email, but it would’ve been better to go tell her how my interview went and thank her again for all she did to help me become a teacher.
