Spina bifida bloodwork test?

Did you get the spina bifida bloodwork test around 16 weeks? I have to call our insurance to see if they cover it, if not I am thinking we will wait until our 20 week anatomy scan to determine. What are the benefits from detecting it 4 weeks earlier since it’s a non curable birth defect? Just want to see what you fellow mamas have to say about it.

They test for it early so that if you decide to terminate you can.
Also, while there’s not a cure, there are surgeries they can do while the fetus is still in your uterus to help correct severe defects, which can improve quality of life for your baby once they’re born.

I have decided not to do this one. I did do the one for trisomy 13 18 and 21 and gender mainly for gender lol

My ob done that at my 6 week appointment. I was on a insurance company that they didn’t take at the time so the switched me... so the old one sent a letter stating that they don’t cover it but the one I’m on now does cover it... it was a confusing mess

I did get the blood test at 15+1 and got results at 15+6. All normal thank the Lord 🙌🏽 they didn’t ever mention it to me that it would be looked for at 20 weeks so I’m not sure

No we decided to not do any genetic testing or testing for abnormalities. We will have our 20 week anatomy scan in a couple of weeks and hoping for the best.

I actually have spina bifida, and have a higher risk of having a child with spina bifida. I have asked about testing for it since day one, and have always been told they will look for it on the anatomy scan, and do blood work then as well at 20 weeks. I would say that there is no real benefit to finding out earlier. Usually intervention before birth is only for very severe cases.
