Do babies born at 37 weeks need preemie?

Question

I’m being induced at 37 weeks and was wondering if I would need preemie stuff? My baby as of my ultrasound Monday weighed 5 pounds 13 oz and they said he’d most likely be 6 and a half pounds at delivery.

My son did but he was 5 lbs 10 oz. He was in newborn stuff for quite a while.

It depends. Weight guesses during pregnancy aren’t accurate. You could be 37 weeks and have a 9 pound baby or a 4 pound baby. From what I’ve seen most newborn clothes are pretty tiny and say “up to 7 pounds,” so I’d say if baby is between 5 and 7 pounds they can probably just wear newborn

It depends on the baby really... my second child was my biggest baby weight wise but was very petite and tiny. She wore NB clothes until she hit about 3-4 mos old and she is still my tiniest child.   My second son was born at 36 wks weighing 7 lbs even, and NB only got him for like a couple weeks and after that we were going through sizes like crazy!  You could buy a few preemie outfits just in case but you may not really know until baby is here.  :)

I would have an outfit or two on hand but not take tags off until you are sure you’ll need them. Even if newborn is a bit big she can still wear them. My 37 weeker was in premie for 2 months, but she was only 4lbs 8oz at birth and had IUGR.

Depends on the kid my youngest was born at 42weeks 7 pound 20 ounces and still wore a premie because he was short both my kiddos did

My little girl was 6 pounds 7 ounces when she was born and then went down to 6 pounds before leaving the hospital.. she fit into preemie stuff for maybe a week. Newborn will maybe be a bit big for a week or two but i wouldn't buy a whole lot of preemie stuff because they grow so fast. Maybe wait and see how they fit in newborn stuff and then buy preemie stuff if you feel you need to.
