Newborn screening stress...

Alex

My daughter's first newborn screening test came back abnormal for Carnitine uptake defect. We had to go back and do a repeat newborn screening to see if it was a false positive because it was such a small number it was considered borderline. Well I got a call from my daughter's doctor today saying that she came back positive for a completely different abnormality, galactosemia. We spent the entire day at the doctor and hospital getting checked out and doing labs. The doctor, the specialist, and the dietary specialist all seem to think it is very strange that she had completely normal results the first time and really weird/abnormal the second time, and seem to think things aren't adding up. They said I am okay to continue breastfeeding because her liver function lab came back great. Anyone else have any issues with this? Any nurses know why both tests would come back with different abnormalities? I am going to call and ask why this could happen tomorrow..
