How to breastfeed?

Hi i really want to breastfeed i am due april 6th..i dont know ANYTHING! PLEASE HELP...do i pump and breast feed or do i have to wait a certain time before i start pumping?? How often and when do i pump? Can i offer a pacifier? When can i introduce a bottle so my hubby can bond? How can i ensure a good supply? Any help is appreciated i really want to be succesful at this!

Does your hospital offer classes? Me and my partner went to one and ut was super informative and helpful. You also get to see a lactation consultant at my hospital after the baby is born

Sounds like you would benefit from one on one teaching, hopefully there’s resources in your area! Start by asking your OB and I’m sure when you deliver you’ll get teaching

I would definitely look into classes in your area! Pacifiers are not recommended until breastfeeding is established, you don’t want to confuse baby. You can pump if you want but it’s a good idea to wait until your supply is more regulated so you don’t end up with an over supply.

First of all. Feed on demand. It will feel like A LOT. Don’t bother with pumping until you establish your supply. And hire a lactation consultant to check the latch and for any lip ties. Their advice is invaluable because breastfeeding is tough and you will need support.

Most hospitals will offer a lactation counselor mine came in after the birth and we were settled in asking if I needed any help or had any questions. They can show you the proper holds and if the latch is tight. Most nurses will help as much as possible to. But you don't usually pump right away unless your baby is in the NICU or something like that where you can't get that contact. After you get home if you want to start saving milk you can look up pumping schedules to kinda help you out at first. Pacifiers are totally fine and most hospitals will give baby one right away unless you say no. Also a good way for hubby to bond without bottles is skin to skin, I know they always emphasis mama and baby skin to skin they often leave out the daddy, but he can bond just as much from that skin contact ❤️

Offer boob right when born, feed on demand everytime baby is hungry. You can pump immediately after feedings but no more than 45 minutes before one. You can save breast milk for 2 days in fridge and I think it was like 6 months in freezer. Deep freezer. Also if you want to introduce bottle they say to do it within the first two weeks so they don’t deny the nipple and be confused. You absolutely can offer a pacifier too. Just make sure you do these things within the first two weeks otherwise they’ll have nipple confusion lol good luck it’s hard but well worth it 💕💕💕🌸🙌🏼

Check out Dr Jack Newman on YouTube. He has videos on proper latch. It really helped me with my first baby. He really explains everything in detail.
And try to find some breastfeeding support groups after you give birth.
They're usually guided by a lactation consultant and it's a good way to meet other mums and get support.
