What to expect...

So my boyfriend and I just went to our very first IVF appointment and I just wanted to see if there is anyone can share some experiences on what to expect. Also any and all success stories. I need to keep myself positive but I am scared!

Hey Steph, 
I write this message to you on the day of my fresh transfer which happens in 3 hours. I have PCOS, husband is Superman with his sperm so we had no issues with the fertilization part. 
This was my protocol.. 
The next several weeks are going to be weekly blood draw and ultrasound appointments to determine when you start the injections. Once they give you the green light, it’s time to grow those follicles with 1-2 types of meds. I was on menopur and gonal-f (follistim). Weekly appointments continue for several days (most people are on the STIM injections for 8-12 days). When your follicles are between 16-20 mm in size they’ll schedule your egg retrieval. At that point you’ll be introduced to another type of injection that blocks your hormones from releasing the eggs too early (centrotide). About 36 hours before your retrieval you’ll inject the hcg medication. 
Retrieval- 12 hour fast prior to the surgery, you have general anesthesia and when that propofol goes in your iv line it’ll hurt like a bitch for 2 seconds and then you’re out like a fat kid in dodgeball! 😂 15 mins later you’re awake and the nice people who just leggo’ed your eggos will tell you how many were retrieved. Recovery is not bad. Bloating mild cramping is expected. Drink lots of electrolytes and I mean a LOT. Depending on your transfer plan (fresh vs frozen) that dictates the dates when that 3 or 5 day blastocyst goes back in your body and you’re officially PUPO! (Pregnancy until proven otherwise). Nurses will call you every morning to give you the number of eggs that are successfully multiplying. 
We opted out of the pgs genetic test and are doing a fresh transfer. Hoping today’s embryo is the right one!! We retrieved 17 eggs, 13 fertilized, as of Sat I had 11 good ones and 2 that we’re losing steam.
