Deciding not to go back to work?!

Question

Having just had my second baby I’m very tempted to not go back to work as I am lucky that I do not need to (we just won’t be able to have many holidays or things like that). It’s such a hard decision and I desperately want to stay at home but as a teacher I don’t want to regret it in a few years time?! Has anyone not gone back to work and loved it/regretted it?

If you desperately want to stay home I don’t think you will regret it. I cannot do it and think women who can are amazing because it’s a different kind of challenge that you don’t really get credit for.  As long as mama is happy and healthy, baby will be to!

Literally just had a meltdown tonight because I’m going back to work in April and I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I love the actual work and a handful of people that I work with/for, but for the most part I don’t like the people in my department and have not missed them at all. If I never saw them again, I’d be okay either it. I could stay home if we took our lifestyle down a bit, mostly my husband could give up his expensive hobbies: snowmobiling, hunting, etc. I’ve already told him that when I have our next baby, I’m not going back to work. Personally I think if you can afford it, stay home. You can always find another job and attain professional goals, but your babies are only babies for such a short time. 😢 I was very career-driven up until the day my son was born and then all of my priorities shifted. Now all I want is to be a mommy.

SAHM for 3 years now. I have a 3 year old and a 16 week old. I love it and have no regrets at all. It’s definitely not for everyone though.

Been a SAHM for almost 2 years . Some days I wonder how it would be to work again . But I don’t miss it and don’t want too . I love staying home and taking care of the kids and just relaxing and cooking and cleaning of course . I get to raise my children and have more without daycare issues , someone mistreating them or any other problems. Plus I get to bond with them 1 on 1 and teach them better and help them learn more right at home .

I regret it. I like having goals to go after at work and haven’t found anything outside of a career be as satisfying in that regard. I also feel like there is a higher expectation for maintaining a perfect home (very difficult with 3 littles) and always having home cooked meals ready because I stay home...SO has literally only cooked 1 time in 2 years when he would cook at least weekly before I stopped working. There are a ton of little things I could go on and on about and while I am glad to have been afforded the opportunity to stay home to see how it is but I feel my life was managed much better when I had to juggle the kids and work.

Nope never regretted it I’ve been stay at home mum for 9yrs.. I’ve had 3 babies I always said I never go back to work till they old enough to start nursery or school as that’s when they leave you. Instead of you leaving them.lol it’s been amazing sometimes it gets boring, but you find other hobbies or interest to do with your kids. Like I bake a lot with my boys and they love it but before having kids I never baked a thing.lol once my little girl starts nursery in 3yrs time that’s when I go back to work.. 😊

I think you should weigh the positives and negatives. However, the fact that you said you’re tempted to not go back sort of tells me you really do want to stay at home and that’s what’s in your heart 😊. If you had your baby in November and that’s still what you want, then maybe it’s in your heart to be a SAHM! 
My mom was a SAHM. I did like having her home all the time. My dad also worked crazy hours and was not helpful at home. He didn’t even know how to make toast lol 😂. But my husband has a flexible work schedule so for me, I will be going back to work. He can also cook and do laundry so that will make it easier for me. I do think it depends on if your partner can help with some things.
As for long term, I don’t think you will regret it because you already have a career in teaching. You could probably go right back into that right? I feel like that’s a field where they would totally understand people taking time off to take care of their children

I’ve decided not to return to work and im very happy with my decision. I will be a stay at home mom until my daughter starts school!! I think I’ll really appreciate that time with her once she’s a little older. I feel like if i didn’t then i would definitely regret it

I’m staying home now with my 2 boys and love it! I’m enjoying these times with them and I don’t miss working at all! If you want to and can do it!!! They don’t stay this little forever
