Opinions please
FTM, low risk pregnancy and 6 days away from my due date. My midwife has contacted me asking if I would be willing for a student to shadow the rest of my pregnancy and follow up care. I presume this means any further appointments at our doctors surgery, labour and checks after birth. She has sold as 'unlimited continuous support'.
Would you be willing for a student midwife to be present during labour?
Have you had an experience of this?
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Any opinions welcome.
*Edit*
Thank you for all the responses! It's confirmed my feelings - I've had multiple students throughout appointments (both with midwives, scans and consultants) and likewise have had many positive experiences. I had a student carry out my growth scan which was my only negative experience, whereby she left me in tears after delivering incorrect news (I assume they were under staffed as she was on her own). I felt a little bit dubious about allowing a student be involved during labour as a result of this as I am nervous enough as it is. But as a teacher I realise everyone needs to learn somehow/where. I will agree to this offer and like people have said if at any point I feel uncomfortable (on top of the actual labour part😂) I will request to be left to it.
Thank you again for putting my mind at rest and for sharing your experiences😘
