BOY MOMS: what age did you potty train and any tips?

Also did you use a toilet top potty or an actual little kid toilet? 
Also any tips on cleaning those inevitable accidents? (Out of carpet)

We started with my son a little before he turned 2. He did well for a while then started using his pull up again. He’s almost two and a half and he’s wanting to use the big potty more often now. Started out using a small potty just poured whatever into the toilet and washed it out in the bathtub real well when done.

Started a week after his 2nd birthday with a little potty. We switched to the "big potty" around 2.5 months because he was tall enough to get on and off by himself

We've been slowly potty training since my son turned 2. He'll be 3 in June and finally in the last few weeks it all clicked and he's overall doing well, but there are still days here and there that he wants nothing to do with it. We have both a little potty and a seat for the regular toilet and we let him pick what he wants to use. Usually he prefers the little potty but sometimes he likes the big one to poop for whatever reason. 
He hasn't had many full blown accidents. He has some of the training underwear which usually absorbs the brunt of it pretty well. Even then, it has never been enough to get through his underwear and pants and onto the floor or couch or anything. But invest in a good carpet shampooer if you don't already have one, and use the cleaner for pets so it's made more to help with urine smells if it does happen. We have laminate floors now but used to have carpet when my dog was a puppy and we just used the carpet shampooer a LOT, so I'd assume you could just do the same for human accidents. 
But take him to the potty often. We started going every hour if he actually went potty, but if he didn't then we'd do it every 15 minutes or so until he did so we wouldn't miss it when he needed to go. It's definitely something to take on when you can spend a lot of time at home with no distractions. And make sure he's ready. My pediatrician said when they can communicate that they need to go AND can get themselves undressed, then it's time to start training. That was the best piece of advice I got.
Honestly, potty training and having a little one who is newly potty trained is much harder than them in diapers (in my opinion), so if everybody isn't 100% ready, wait until they are. It goes much more smoothly then. Also, I don't know if he's in daycare or grandma watches him or you and dad flip flop working or whatever, but consistency is also EXTREMELY important. It took ages for my step daughter to be potty trained because it was different with her mom, with grandma who watched her during the day, and with my husband. Make sure everyone who watches him is on the same page so things go smoothly.

Our boys trained fairly late - at 3.5, 3.5 and 2.5 respectively.  There is a genetic component to potty training and my husband trained later as well.  We had to toilet seat topper and a little potty training toilet.  The toilet seat topper was most popular.  There are kid urinals on Amazon if you want another option.
The only tip I have is get rid of the carpet or get a good carpet cleaner.  We always have pee outside of the toilet (my boys stand when they pee).
My coworker made his son sit to avoid the mess, so that might be another option...if the kid complies.

Not started yet as he’s not communicating that he needs to go. A friend gave me a tip about leaving the house when you are potty training she said she would put underwear on her son then a nappy/diaper over the top so if he had an accident he could feel the wet underwear but didn’t need an outfit change just he pants

17 months. He’s 21 months now and poop potty trained lol. We use a little potty for now
