I want to know too!! ☹️

I see all of these American mommas posting getting cervical checks and being dialated and effaced etc. I’m 35+5 and haven’t had this mentioned to me. This is my first baby. Does anyone know when our midwives start checking for dialation? I’m just curious to know what’s going on in there 😁

I’m sure Americans get all of these extra services because they pay for things individual. I’m in the early stages and all these Americans throwing out their ultrasounds ect and I’m over here like👍 waiting for 12 weeks.I often wonder why they need to know every little detail of everything? Have you noticed? Just as an example miscarriage- Uk we just deal with it unless it’s happened before but USA they know - how why what where and when - even on the first one 🤔 Just an observation that’s been bugging me since baby 1

That’s how I feel. I struggle to see how it’s necessary.

Yeah they're always talking about hcg levels etc and we never bother with that in the UK, and they get scanned really early. Way of billing them more money I expect... I can't see how it's necessary some of this stuff! 🤷‍♀️

Totally agree I understand the nhs is under a massive amount of pressure but still it’s frustrating to see! Especially like you say when it comes to miscarriage etc.

They don’t normally check unless you think you’re in labour, or are 40 weeks and need a sweep!

Americans are too impatient! Normally they ask to be checked but it actually causes more harm than good until you’re ready! I’ve had mine checked three times but only with a speculum, never with their fingers.

Thank you! I just wanted to know as midwife never mentioned anything! Odd how different countries have totally different procedures!

They don’t actually check unless there is a need. It’s just going to increase a risk of infection so not worth it! For some they can go from 1cm to 4cm very quick others may stay at a 1 for 4 weeks. You’d probably go insane if you did know to be honest!

I guess that makes sense

My midwife gave me a sweep at 39 weeks and when she did that she said I was only 1cm. I was in labour from Thursday til Saturday and was only checked twice in that time. The more they check the higher risk of infection, as standard it’s no more than ever four hours of your in labour.

Nah, no need hun. It's only done in the UK routinely when you're actually in labour, and even then you can refuse. It can introduce infection and its not really necessary to just have a look for no reason. It's generally an American thing, they're always getting their bits checked 🤷‍♀️

I got checked at 37 weeks in the hospital because apparently my baby wasn’t engaged when he was and they told me then I was 1cm dilated then, roughly 2 weeks later I got another sweep done and they told me I was 3cm. It just depends if they think you’re in labour or when there’s something wrong
