When do I take opks

Question

My cycle varies from 28-34 days. When would be the best day to start taking an opk? I’ve never used them before

Answer

Based on a 28-34 day cycle, ovulation will occur on or around CD 14-20; but can be earlier or later too. I suggest starting from CD 10. But start BD every OTHER day from CD 8. Then once you get a positive opk, BD that day and the 2-3 days after. 
With opk’s, never use FMU (unless instructed in the instructions). Choose two times between 10 AM and 8 PM that you can test at every day at the SAME two times (so you don’t miss your surge); and use a 4 hour pee hold each time (and do not drink a lot of water during the hold times). Once the test line is as dark as, or darker than, the control line - you have a positive. Once you get a positive, ovulation will occur within 12-36 hours; and the egg - once released - will be viable for 12-24 hours.
