Do you sleep with your baby on the couch for naps?

I wouldn’t take the chance, not if I’m sleeping too. I worked in a field where I saw babies die like that. They slowly slide down between the parent and the cushion and suffocate. If you want to sleep with your baby, that’s one thing. But best to follow the “safesleep seven” which in part recommends to do so on a flat surface.

I always let my baby sleep on my chest when she was a baby. she’s one now and will still nap on me when she’s sick. Often I would lie on the couch with the baby on my chest asleep, but I’d never fall asleep myself. Doing so would be very dangerous as they can fall off or slide into the crack between you and the couch and suffocate. These deaths are classed as “bed sharing” deaths which actually skews the data and makes true safe bed sharing seem much more dangerous than it is.

Never ever 🙅🏻 I've worked with babies and toddlers for close to 10 years and this is very much frowned upon. I've seen babies die this way. It's so incredibly dangerous for your little one. Your child should only be sleeping on firm, flat surfaces.

No. I’ll sleep on the couch but I won’t let him sleep on me if I’m sleeping too. Good chance I’ll drop him because I’m a heavy sleeper and I move around a lot

Yup. All the time when he was a newborn. Those were some of my favorite moments! We have a chase attached to the couch, so I’d lay at an angle and give him a good chunk of space. Never feel into a deep sleep but I would nap or rest or just watch him. Now that he’s older (9 months) he naps in his crib most of the time. I do miss those snuggles though. He doesn’t want to snuggle anymore 😭

My baby is held for all naps, if I need to sleep as well I would not do so on the couch but on my bed. The couch seems way too risky.

The odd time, if he wasn’t feeling well or just needed extra snugs. But consistency is key, so I’ve always thought he’s so much better in his bed where he knows bed = sleep & we’ve never had any issues & he has slept through the night since he was like a month & a half.
