Depends what your idea of dating is my daughter is a sophomore she can have her BF at the house I can take them places but won't allow them to be alone alone.

I was allowed to date at 16. That being said, I was always expected to tell my mom who I was with, where we were going and was expected to be home by curfew. If she called and I didn't answer (unless I had previously told her I'd be in a movie or something), I would get in trouble.

I think it depends on mental stability or maturity. 
My friends younger sister started dating at 16 & we were all against it because she is ridiculously immature.

My little cousin just made 16 in July and her parents said when she turn 16 she can date after they met the guy. They're raising her right if you as me. She's a Jr in Highschool with a 3.9 GPA and she's in honors classes. So in my opinion it's all on the kids and they're maturity.

Depends on your values and how you define dating. If you don't believe in sex before marriage then you should not start one-on-one dating unless you are close to the point where you can get married. I don't recommend marriage at 17 or 18 so you would be trying to stay cellibate for 3 or 4 years while becoming attached to someone. It is not impossible but it is so hard.

If sex outside of marriage is no big deal to you and your parents I would think 16 is okay so long as you don't ignore your friendships and schoolwork because of it.
