Posting for friend ..

My friend had her 12 weeks appointment today but they didn’t do an ultrasound, they went straight to Doppler. Has anyone’s doctor done this? She also isn’t to sure if she’s 12 weeks because she just got a negative about 1.5 weeks after her period was due. Her LMP is Dec 20th and she says she didn’t have a period since the December one. They didn’t hear the heartbeat on the Doppler. Overall, has any doctor done that and not request an ultrasound right away??
