Every once in a while isn’t what they really worry about, especially if you’re below 35. Regular smoking, I think multiple times a day everyday is when it really ups your chances

Smoking while on ANY birth control increases your risk of blood clots. That being said I've been on birth control since I was 14, and smoked from 13-24. I also have super low blood pressure and besides the smoking I ate right and exercised often. 
But yes, you should quit. It's absolutely possible. Depending on your insurance they can prescribe you a quitting aide, I used that and it got me down to 2 a day in about 3-4 weeks. I haven't smoked in 1-1/2 years now.

It can cause blood clots due to the estrogen in the patch reacting with nicotine. Blood clots can cause strokes which can leave you paralyzed and unable to speak for the rest of your life. Just keep that in mind.
