is one IUD better than the other?

i’m trying to decide if i want to get the hormonal IUD or the nonhormonal IUD but there are different side affects for both and i’m trying to weight out the pros and cons. both seem kinda scary to me. please leave a comment on why you think one is better than the other

Paraguard has softer strings, no hormones & last longer also copper is healthy for the body especially if you don’t have a high copper diet. Also less side effects. The hormonal one has more side effects & due to hormones cancer can be a side effect too if you don’t have the hpv shot from what ive heard.

I think it depends on what you want. I personally do not like hormones so I went with Paragard. It’s also able to stay in for 10 years versus 5. However, heavier periods are a side effect as well as reverting back to longer periods. For example, when I first started getting my period they’d last for 10-11 days. On hormonal birth control I’d have 3-5 day periods. On Paragard I have 7-8 periods. Good luck.

It actually depends on you. For some people, hormones mess up with your system and mood swings (I was on Depo where my moods swings went like crazy). Non hormonal IUD lasts up to 10-12 years and start working right after they are inserted. It can also be used as an emergency contraceptive. Side effects are a lot of cramping (based on my experience) and heavy periods. That’s the only thing you gotta worry about. Hormonal IUDs lasts for 3-5 years (depending on the brand you get) and some side effects are lighter periods, spotting and weight gain. Good luck with whichever IUD you choose and remember to always check up for your strings to make sure it’s in place
