Non-US citizens -- what do you remember about where you were when you first learned about the events in the USA on 9/11?

Just read a powerful and heartwarming reddit thread on this topic and wanted to bring it to our Glow sisterhood.  The three things that stood out most:  1) how much love, empathy and support the world extended that day and in the weeks that followed 2) how deeply it altered ones sense of security in all parts of the world (not just in the USA) 3) how many people were watching the Simpsons (seriously, lol).  (In the US, it was too early for the Simpsons).

Please share your memories below.  What country were you in?  Where were you when you heard the news?  How did it make you feel?  What the general sense in your country?

I lived in Germany then (moved here only three years ago). I was 17 and at work at a card dealership's office when someone heard the breaking news about the first plane hitting on a car radio in the shop. We all gathered around that vehicle and were terrified when we heard the words "possible terrorist attack". All I could think of was all these people involved. 
Because of the time difference this was right before the time I was getting out of work. I drove home, listening to the radio and the first eye witness reports they had. I came home, walked into my parents' house and found my mom crying in front of the TV. She had been home for a while and they kept showing the airplane hit the tower. As the news anchor was just talking over live footage of the burning tower we saw the second airplane hit. It was the most terrible thing I had ever seen and I will never forget that. We thought this may have just started WW III. All airports in Germany were talking about shutting down immediately. People left work to watch the news and/or head home to their families. My whole family spent the rest of he afternoon and evening in front of the TV, watching the terrifying images of people jumping out those windows and the towers collapse. The sound of the devices that the firemen carried and were buried in the debris I will also never forget. Whenever they showed footage anymore after the collapse you heard that whistling siren sound, knowing these are all the dead heroes buried along with the victims. It was awful and to this day I still cry when I see something a knit 9/11. My heart breaks for all those lives lost and their families. We went to see the 9/11 memorial in 2012 and it was overwhelming. May God bless the souls of all of those that lost their lives that day and those that lived...

I had just picked my son up from school put on TV and it was in the news, I remember looking shocked and thinking that this is not real

England. I had just got home from college. I felt physically sick.... complete disbelief. My sister worked for NATS at the time and I knew she would be on high alert and I couldn't contact her.
