My husband was thinking I needed to go but I don't want to waste time on an unneeded appointment.

I would at least start taking some kind of pre natal. It's good to have that extra folic acid in your system beforehand.

Do you have any medical conditions?  Take medications?  Have irregular periods? Over 30-35 (depending on the doctor)?  Husband's healthy and not on medications?  Pap and std screenings up to date?
Unless one of those apply, you are most likely ok to skip a preconception appointment.

Only if you have medical complications or are over 35. Otherwise you probably don't!
