Overactive let down has turned my baby into a gassy madam.
So my beautiful daughter was perfect for the first two weeks. Easy to placate, cuddle and settle down to sleep - in spite of the frantic clustefeeding.
At the approach of the end of week 2, my breast milk starts coming in way too fast. I'm talking, leaking everywhere, squirting in her eye, soaking through breast pads in 15 minutes kind of messy. It also brought my daughter quite a bit of pain. In her haste to keep up with the milk supply and wolf down her food, she started swallowing a great deal of air with her milk. I've tried readjusting the latch, I've tried lying back and basically having her lie across me so that my overactive let down is mitigated by gravity, but it doesn't seem to stop her. She gulps and splutters and actually seems to enjoy being swamped by the milk because when I try to pull her off to burp her she gets ratty at me and sucks at my nipple with a fierce vengeance afterwards.
Unfortunately, this has caused her to spend at least three hours each evening curling and arching in pain from gas and apparent constipation. She will also grunt and mewl during her sleep before we are greeted by the sound of an almighty crap being deposited into her nappy.
So... with all that in mind... does anyone have any tips for helping my little one with gas. She will sometimes burp successfully and I always cheer her on when she does, but 75% of the time she just won't burp even when trying a few different positions.
