When did you consider seeing an REI?

I am going to be 31 in June, I have had irregular periods or lack thereof for 2 years since going off birth control. My GYN can’t figure it out, an Endocrinologist couldn’t figure it out. I finally made an appointment to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist in May. I think hubby is nervous to go this route already. But I can’t get pregnant with no ovulation and unpredictable cycles.
I hope this Dr. can let me know why my body is not functioning normally. 😓
When did you finally go to a REI? What was your first appointment like?

Our first re appointment was about a year after our miscarriage and after we had 2 failed clomid cycles. My advice for you is to bring a notebook and write down questions you may have, all our questions were answered without having to ask them. You’ll get a folder full of info, go over financial and insurance info, schedule tests they’ll want you and your partner to get. They’ll go over timed intercourse, iui and ivf but won’t decide on what’s best for you until you get those tests done, unless you already did then have that info faxed over to your new re.

I went after having two missed miscarriages. It ended up being less than a year after we started trying. We love our fertility doctor. The first appointment they just want to know background information then they talk about the tests they would do. Basically they do process of elimination. They explain all the things they are testing for. Like a semen analysis, genetic testing on both of you, then they look at structural stuff for you and hormones for you and follicles etc. they will explain all of it then you’ll probably have to wait until the first day of your period to start several of the tests. Then once they get all the results back they have you come back in and tell you what your options are usually what might give you the best chance or what they think you should try first, etc. it could be anything from taking some medicine and trying on your own to IVF to adoption and everything in between. I felt relieved after our first appointment because I felt like we had a plan and we were working toward something. It is scary and overwhelming to get all the testing done because you just never know what the results will be or what they will determine for you. Best of luck to you!! We went after trying for 4 years and I wish we would have went sooner. I had been seeing my OBGYN prior to that and she just didn’t have the level of concern and expertise that the RE has.

Dont hesitate if you dont have consistent cycles.  We started trying when I was 33 almost 34... my dr made me wait a year to schedule... then it took 3 months to get an appointment.  Im now 36 and still ttc.  The nurses said they would have scheduled me right away since I do not ovulate regularly.
