Are braces a waste of money?

I'm 17 and I have a part time job. I'm saving up to buy braces. I have $1589 ( I owe my dad $500 so technically only have $1000) the braces will cost $6500. And if my dad lets use money from the insurance I'll only have to pay $3500

I don't even want to know how my smile would look if I hadn't had braces. Like seriously! That's AWESOME that you are saving up for something like this, I think it's well worth it!

They are absolutely not a waste of money if you need them. My teeth were all sorts of messed up from having a small mouth, big teeth, and things coming in at the wrong spots/angles/twists. My dad thought it would be a waste, my mom pushed for it, and i (of course, being a kid), didn't want to be "ugly" by wearing braces. They were the best thing to happen to me. I went and partially messed them back up down the road by not getting my wisdom teeth out before they started pushing on my teeth. And i still have them, and still need them out. So my advice is to get the braces, and then make sure to get your wisdom teeth out if there's no room in your mouth for them. That way you don't mess up your nice straight teeth.

I got Mine done two years ago (they were purely cosmetic) and it was very very worth it. I feel happy to smile after getting it done and wouldn't change it for anything. 
If you are just looking into cosmetic braces, I would check out the 6 month smile program. They are cheaper than conventional braces and come off in around 6 months (Mine came off in 5).

Depends on the fix.. Braces work wonders but of it's something little there are other, less costly, fixes. For instance, my teeth are perfect except for a small gap on my front teeth. I could've went for braces but due to the fact of the price and the length I would've had to have them I opted out and went with bonding. A lot cheaper, only took 30minutes, no pain and you can't even tell. No problems with it at all, I would recommend it to everyone if they were in the same situation as me. As I said, it depends on the extent of the work that's needed.
