What if I don’t have a birth plan?

Can I not have a birth plan? I am going in there with the mindset of “whatever happens, happens”.

My birth plan is ‘healthy mom, healthy baby. And if possible, play the Jonas brothers’.

That’s the way to do it. Your nurse will ask you all the basics and what your preferences are. I’m a labor and delivery nurse and rarely have patients actually write or type out a birth plan. When I do have patients come in with strict and specific birth plans I swear it jinxes them and everything they don’t want to happen ends up happening.

Yes! My birth plan was to have a baby. When I asked my midwife if I needed a birth plan she said no. Honestly, I think she was relieved.

I didn’t have a birth plan with my first. I had a preference for no interventions but had an open mind about it and was willing to do whatever it took to get baby here safely. 
I think it helped me be a lot more relaxed. I had a precipitous birth with my first and had I gone in with a strict plan or idea of how I wanted it to go I think it would have stressed me out not being able to follow the plan.

I was so stressed about this myself. I kept trying to plan one and then I took my hospital tour and the nurse said it’s most likely not going to go how you plan for it so I just ditched the whole idea. I’m due in 6 weeks and it’s really taken a lot of stress off.

I think that’s the best plan. My midwife asked what my plan was. I said “ for what? I’m going to show up. You’re going to show up I’m going to utilize an epidural and do what y’all tell me to”. Lol

My midwife wasn’t super fussed about birth plan. She gave me a couple of things to look into and consider for when the time comes (like vitamin k), but she was really just happy to let things unfold.

My main stuff on my birth plan is after care. I’m pretty adamant about delayed cord clamping and a few other things for my baby immediately after he is born.
