“Committed suicide” vs. “Died by Suicide”
I was on Facebook the other day and I ran across an article, I can’t remember the exact words it used but it was something along the lines of : “Parkland Shooting Survivor Kills Herself One Year Later”. I didn’t read the article but I did read the comments. A lot of the comments were angry with the wording of the article, many saying “It’s died by suicide!”, “quit placing the blame of the victim by saying she killed herself”, etc. I wasn’t aware that the wording “committed suicide” was wrong or controversial.
A family member of mine committed suicide, I’m personally not bothered by that wording. It’s literally what happened. I feel like “died by suicide” is awkward wording, but that’s my opinion.
