Water births?

Do the NHS do water births? Would you recommend a water birth?

Answer

Yes but not always at the main delivery suite, check with your midwife. They will almost certainly be in the birthing centres. I had a water birth in the birthing centre at the main hospital as I didn't like the thought of being in a birthing centre away from hospital just in case something went wrong! I would definitely recommend it, I'm sure my baby was on a nerve or something during labour (I had a back labour too) as I was slowly losing the feeling of my left leg and the warm water definitely helped me relax.

I started my labour in the birthing pool as my labour was very slow. I wouldn’t say it helped with the pain or relaxed me at all. They would not give me any other pain relief as I was in the water... 
I wasn’t in there for the actual birth though as I was taken to theatre for possibly csection but ended with a forceps birth. 
My sister in law had water births on my niece & nephew. She loved it, it completely relaxed her. 
Everyone is different I suppose
